Cross Country w/Jim & Patty
💝
Oh we went went to Seattle
and swam north to Canada so free
did not have canoe or paddle
going into a country to shout whoopie!
Patty and I really did our journey
on a cruising sightseeing boat with fun appeal
the coast and islands of Puget Sound
swimming whales, Rock island resting seals
such a lovely memory of my sweet friend
returning home where she was born
and as romantic fate would seduce
her handsome suitor was forlorn
So off we went, his home a cottage
on the cliffs about that famous estuarine
which comfort that enhanced that view
prettier in person than in a magazine!
So nice to remember those younger days
our adventure was a 200th freedom celebration
It was 1976 as we drove from our Boston to Seattle
crossing old to newer land for an exciting exploration
What a time to see, flatlands, cities
prairies forest and mountains high
ponds and streams, and rivers
a fishless salt lake as blue as the sky
🌎
Oh, the land celebrated our liberation to live
with progress so that everyone crowned kingless again
civilized anew by peoples, migrants all of creation sharing
rebuilding liberty, all humankind each one an honest friend
May the doors open up once more
to each one like our personal stories
to grow into a world of wonder bright
as our ancestors did find a rainbow of glory
