Daddy Would be 104 Today

Birthday Father Joseph

14 May 1920 🦋 4 September 2010

How can we tell you, Daddy

How much you mean, our rescue

for you fell in love with our widow mother

who brought from the farm her litter of love

5 of us from 13 to 3, Alma John Ruth Judith and me

You’d returned from an ocean madly called Pacific

when it had been actually WARific

a gunner’s mate on a battleship back home now

to little Goldsboro town, a carpenter

living opposite side of Uncle Howard’s store

Cupid seemed to travel down the street

bringing you to port with Momma Maud

Loving her even with that frazzled brood

Lost their father suddenly out on the farm

moved to town to begin a new life, sorrowful

Joseph brought goodness, no alarm nor harm

Yes a large heart and industry

to take care of us, for all to see

for some crazy reason romance

touched you to love’s deep pacific sea

We were so fortunate that you gave us

the love so strong, so clear, full of care

a Kamikaze plane no more above to fear

you gave us affection, wise and so fair

We thank you Joseph Floyd White

you may have passed on to earth and sky

for into our hearts and minds daily

you guide like an angel into our lives

still you sing, guide and, yes, fly!

Happy Birthday every day!

In every, every every way,

with Mom always a holy holiday!

💗

Love, Jim and Judith and all who have joined you eternally!
