Timber, Snowfall

Another tree it fell it fell

off the steep mountains side

it seems climbing swiftly high

behind our house trees grow wild

another collapsed from weather

as snow melting wore it down

sorrowfully it gave up its life

to fall upon our lowly ground

between house & studio it landed

now face down our poor maiden effigy

had held a blossom bowl upon her shoulders

now lying earthly, a sculpture tragedy

each of three parts, base, figure

the lovely top, roots without a flower

looks so lonely as ribbons of snow

stabbing ground melts hour by hour

We are glad that studio or house

where not hit by discarded trees

we hope at least so far so it seems

pray for no more timber catastrophes

For we have little money, if at all

and do not wish to bring lawsuit

against the owner up above as

the hill redresses in natural pursuit

to return to the mound it was before

the lumber hungry and ‘jacks of the past

cut it down to sell then built Saint J

a town like our home we hope will last

Now to wait until the thaw has indeed

as the sunshine roams again we do sing

warming awakening the Northern earth

new sweet green loving flowering Spring

A little sketch I did with "Pens" with brush tips, rather
like markers, alas unlike watercolors
