Singers Sewing Hearts

Mammy Momma Sew

Dreams of cloth

a way of their time

when Mother’s made

and adventurous ones

crafted clothes to wear

wash, and hang on the line

Blouses, Shirts, Skirts and Pants

dance through their holy machines

sometimes as delicate as a rose

blossoming in garden rows

a pallet of artist paint rivals

colors of their seamstress state

the reams of fabric make you dizzy

pedal machines with rhythm feet

or electricity buzz singing melodies

creating our garments of so sweet

Cloth to suit every fashion

a joy of for bride or working man

Even a kid like m, with shirt or ‘jamas

filled with planets or cowboy dramas

Ah, such bliss they did seem to have

cutting from paper patterns

the clothes we wore were hugs of love

out of humble reams of cloth

and hours of working devotion

we thank you beloved Mom, Grandmom

and all you gave to family and friends

in a era when like a farmer’s crops

gave with love life’s true demands

thank you for the memory

that filled my waking mind today

we are so joyous in every way

the garments may not fit right away

you presence blesses us every day!

    1. Your Mom learned so much from these two beloved ones beyond what she 'was allowed to achieve' . Ruth realized what she strongly needed to give to you and your sister to seek life out for yourself, breaking barriers what were much harder for your Mom than you, with strength and knowledge you wanted to know, not the housewife creed forced back. Your Mom was a source of courage to me--and she was a much better baseball player than I would ever be!
